CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FOR YOUTH
At Sunne Lutheran we value the opportunity to learn more about God and to grow in our faith. We offer a variety of educational experiences. All ministry at Sunne is guided by three themes.
God welcomes us into God’s family at our baptism. God reaches out to us and claims us as God’s child. Our whole life is our response to God’s action in our baptism.
God keeps our relationship fresh through Holy Communion. In Holy Communion, we receive the physical forgiveness and acceptance that we need to live out our faith.
Worship is central to our faith. All people are encouraged to worship–not only formally at Sunne but every moment of our life.
Sunday School classes are offered for children age 3 (if accompanied by a parent) or age 4 (if unaccompanied by a parent) through 6th grade. Classes are held Sunday mornings during the school year. Because we value our worship, personalized hymnals are given to 3rd grade students in the fall of their 3rd grade year. Since we treasure the word of God, Beginners Bibles are given to first grade students in the spring of their first grade year and personalized Bibles are given to 5th grade students in the fall of their 5th grade year.
Confirmation is a program of learning about the growing in our faith. Confirmation is a 2 ¼ year program. Classes are taught from grades 7-9. Classes are generally held on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings during the school year. Small group activities, work projects, and a summer trip are also part of this program. Confirmation Sunday (9th grade) is usually the last Sunday in October.
Vacation Bible School (age 3 through 6th grade) is a one week program held during the summer. VBS is often held during the evening in the early part of the summer.
Vacation Bible School for grades K-6 will be held July 29-August 1, 2019 from 6pm to 8:45pm. Please download the VBS registration form to register. Forms can be mailed to Sunne or turned in at the church. Late registrations are welcome.
The age of First Communion is determined by the parents in consultation with the pastor. First communion is offered to any age level and is usually completed by the time a person is in 5th grade. First Communion class is offered every fall.
