Meet Pastor Paul

Welcome to Sunne.  I have served as pastor of this congregation for nearly 29 years.  We are an energetic group who practice sharing God’s love both locally and globally.

My central theme in life is that God calls us by name, claims us, loves us, and sends us out into the world to bring God’s love to the world (see Isaiah 43). I work hard to bring God’s love into the lives of the congregation and the community and to encourage the congregation to live God’s love in their own lives and community. Almost everything I do is framed by Jesus’ command to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourself. I often ask myself, “how does what I am doing/what the church is doing show love towards God? How does it show love to my neighbor?” Ministry is a 24/7 thing for me -serving God, serving the church, serving the community.

We practice living God’s love in hands on ways – by making hundreds of quilts for local needs and for Lutheran World Relief; by putting together hundreds of baby care kits and thousands of school kits for Lutheran World Relief; by organizing and running the Wilton Food Pantry; by sending our youth group around the country to work with various feeding and homeless ministries; by working with our Companion Synod in the Central African Republic.

Ministry is relational for me.  You’ll see me out and about, at ball games, visiting with people in their homes, at the café, or just about anywhere.

Sermons are from the heart and relate God’s word to us.  There’s usually a little humor involved in my preaching, too.

A little bit about me.  You can tell from some of the pictures that I like adventure and world travel.   I’m an avid hiker and backpacker – especially in the Red Lodge, Montana area.  I love to read.  I love my grandkids (and my kids, too).  And, I love my dogs.

We like to call ourselves “God’s family that gathers at Sunne” because that is who we truly are.  I am honored to continue to serve this family.
